Children's dentistry

Effective dental care for children comes with a unique set of requirements. We provide quality care for children from their first tooth, through to adulthood.

Treatment

First, it is important that a child develops a positive relationship with the dentist. So, we place great emphasis on ensuring that the experience is fun and comfortable for the child.

We recommend that children visit the clinic every 6 to 12 months for a general examination. This enables us to track their dental development, and to treat any issues as early as possible. This includes monitoring for early signs of decay and gum disease. Regular contact with a young patient also enables us to provide vital education. This can help to prevent issues in in the future.

Where further treatment is necessary, our experienced team will ensure comfort throughout. For children, this treatment could include fillings, orthodontics or teeth and gum cleaning.

Frequently asked questions

When should I first take my child to the dentist?

When your child’s first milk teeth come through, we recommend that they visit the dentist. We may not be able to examine them at their first visit but attending with parents or guardian will help them to get used to sights, sounds and smells. Visiting the dentist once every 6 months can be very beneficial to their dental health.

Will I experience any pain?
  1. Ensure that they have a toothbrush and toothpaste that’s suitable for their age. The NHS provides guidance on how to tend to childrens’ teeth depending on their age.
  2. Ensure that they avoid foods which may be damaging to their dental health. Dental health issues can start from a very early age, with a quarter of 5 year-olds in the UK experiencing tooth decay. Maintaining a good diet, a good dental routine and regular dentist visits can prevent this.
What should I do if my child knocks out a permanent tooth?

If possible, hold the tooth in the socket with a cloth. If this is not possible, place the tooth in milk. Then call us for an emergency dental appointment.
